CHARLES Sturt University Rugby players who took the field for a game of naked football at the university ground on Friday, October 26 have pleaded guilty to offensive behaviour.
The players were naked when a police patrol happened along Research Station Drive between 1.55pm and 1.59pm when about 12 young men were observed running up and down the field.
Police had parked as the players left the field, some putting any clothing they could find on, about six were spoken to by police, but seven avoided police blending into the crowd, prosecutor Sergeant Mitchell Croyston told the court.
Police had charged the young men they were able to apprehend with behaving in an offensive manner in a public place, the court heard.
The incident had occurred on a playing field about 100 metres from the Mitchell Child Care Centre where children as young as six were in attendance.
After having regard to the evidence against the young men who answered charges pleading guilty this week at the Bathurst Court House, magistrate Thomas Hodgson found the offences proved but dismissed the charges.
According to police, Timothy James Ashworth, 19, of Elimatta Road, of Mona Vale pleaded guilty to behaving in an offensive manner.
He had been one of the young men who appeared to have consumed alcohol.
Paul Michael Carney, 18, of Gardiner Road, Yoogali also pleaded guilty to behaving in an offensive manner and had the information dismissed against him.
Hugh Houriga, 19, of Panorama Avenue, Bathurst had his case dealt with the same way as did Alexander Edward McKendry, 20, of Denison Road, Bolwarra and William Stuart, 19, of Lambert Street, Bathurst.
