Appealing Christmas lights

IF you haven’t entered your house in the 2008 Christmas In Your Street competition, time is running out, entries close today.

Phil Cole from 2BS yesterday said just 10 entries had been received in this year’s competition, which is down on last year.

“We are certainly hoping for a last minute rush on entries,” he said. “Twenty [entries] would be ideal,” he added.

The Christmas In Your Street promotion has been running in the city for years, with all proceeds supporting the very worthy 2BS Bathurst Lions Club Christmas Miracle Appeal, which assists the community’s less fortunate families at Christmas time.

Christmas Miracle Appeal co-ordinator Noela Sikora, said last year’s Christmas In Your Street raised more than $5000 for the miracle appeal, which will provide 1000 hampers to struggling families in the Bathurst area.

Judging for the competition is taking place on December 9 and December 10.

Not only will entering your house assist raising money for the Christmas Miracle Appeal, you will also have the chance to win some great prizes.

Three registration prizes will be drawn on Friday, December 5 which include a $100 gift voucher from Petrie’s Mitre 10, a $75 gift basket and four Metro Cinema movie vouchers.

The winner of the judges choice is $250 from Bathurst Regional Council and the five finalists will receive a $100 gift voucher from Petrie’s Mitre 10.

The five finalists will be announced on Friday, December 12 and will then be allocated wishing wells for donations.

The winner of the People’s Choice will receive $250 from Bathurst Regional Council while second place will receive an overnight stay for two in Mudgee. Third prize is a $75 gift basket from Pick of the Bunch.

Entry forms are available from the Western Advocate or 2BS in George Street as well as the bargain centre in Russell Street (opposite Aldi) or the community op shop in Kelso.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
