Budget benefits Bathurst

16/05/2008 8:26:00 AM
MEMBER for Macquarie Bob Debus welcomed the announcement of $11.6 million in funding for Charles Sturt University in Tuesday night’s Budget.

The funding will help CSU rebuild its campus infrastructure.

The allocation is part of an extra $500 million awarded to Australian universities for their infrastructure renewal.

Mr Debus said a number of Bathurst Regional Council sponsored projects would also benefit.

These include $20,000 for the restoration of the Chifley Steam Engine, $15,000 for the Bathurst Rugby Union Cricket Club facilities and $170,000 for the Bathurst Soccer Association facilities.

There will also be $1.2 million allocated for the Evocities project.

Bathurst is one of a consortium of seven councils who have worked together under Evocities to deliver a marketing strategy to attract people from Sydney to live, work and invest in their cities.

“These are projects I personally campaigned for at last year’s election,” Mr Debus said.

He said the whole Central West will also benefit from $2.4 million to commence planning the Great Western Highway bypass of Mt Victoria village, the notorious Victoria Pass and River Lett Hill, $1.0 million towards the Central West Transport Needs Study with $4 million available for follow-up studies and $23.23 million in the coming financial year to accelerate the upgrading to four lanes of the remaining two lane sections of the Great Western Highway east of Katoomba

The Central West Business Enterprise Centre will receive $300,000.
