SOME of the best bred pampered pooches in the state are set to converge on the city.
The Bathurst and District Kennel Club’s (BDKC) annual championship show will be held from today to Sunday at the showground.
With more than 500 entries vying for the prestigious best in show title which is up for grabs on the Saturday, the competition is bound to be tough.
According to Helen Rixon from the BDKC four judges are being flown over from Western Australia for the event.
“Having judges from so far away helps
create a level playing field for everyone involved because this will be the first time they have seen most of the animals being shown,” she said.
“The Saturday is the big day when the best in show is judged. That involves a process of elimination to find the best of breed who then go head-to-head for the best in show.
“It can be won by any animal of any breed or age and is the one title everyone wants to take home.”
Mrs Rixon said the championship show is a chance for local dog lovers to see some of the best and most unusual dogs.
“We’ll have everything from fluffy little Pomeranians to Irish Wolfhouds and even Great Danes,” she said.
“Come down and see what all the fuss is about. There will be raffles and Rotary is supporting us with the catering.
“It’s also a boost for the local economy with upwards of 500 people coming to town.”
