SPECTATORS couldn’t have asked for a better day of Group 10 rugby league at Carrington Park yesterday.
The crowd was kept happy with three finals in one day and despite ominous black clouds overhead, the rain held back.
The day’s highlight was the premier league grand final between St Pat’s and the Mudgee Dragons.
At the end of the day the Saints came marching home, winning the match 19-12.
Group 10 president Linore Zamparini, who presented the Western Challenge Shield to St Pat’s, enjoyed the day.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better game. Even right down to the last five minutes you couldn’t tell which way the game would sway,” Mr Zamparini said.
“St Pat’s have run on a lot of energy and emotion today and that’s what has got them home.”
It was an emotional game for the Saints, who were playing for their former player and coach, Dave Scott, who died last December.
He had committed himself to spearheading their premiership glory in 2008 before dying of a heart attack.
“Come on Scotties, do your brother proud,” one man yelled. And everyone agreed that’s exactly what they did.
