Local wines will be sold at the Bathurst Farmers’ Market this Saturday for the first time since changes to the Liquor Act were introduced.
Previously the sale of wine was only permitted at the individual vigneron’s cellar door.
This will add another dimension to the Farmers’ Markets, held each month at the Bathurst Showground, by allowing one-stop shopping for delicious local produce and fine wine.
Bathurst Region Vignerons’ Association (BRVA) will have a strong presence as a co-operative group, offering wines from several local vignerons.
Their stall will be located in the Beau Brown Pavilion opposite Saltbush Lamb.
President of BRVA Mark Renzaglia said it would be nice to see wine have a bigger presence at the market.
“People can now buy their wine along with their produce,” he said.
“This move is line with the whole slow food movement to get people back to buying local produce.
Mr Renzagilia said all Bathurst region vignerons would be represented at the market on a rotating basis.
Terry and Julie Dolle, from Orange Mountain Wines who have been long term supporters of the Bathurst Farmers’ Market providing wine tastings and selling their verjuice, will also be offering their award-winning wines for sale.
Market manager Angela Sinclair said Terry was a passionate vigneron and winemaker with a desire to produce the finest wines from his own grapes, grown on his own land.
