Superintendent Mich-ael Goodwin is the new Chifley local area commander, based in Bathurst.
Supt. Goodwin grew up in the Sutherland Shire and first entered the police force 23 years ago.
He has held senior positions in Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Gosford, Nyngan and Broken Hill.
Supt. Goodwin yesterday said the Chifley local area command had been managed well and he would not have to make many changes.
“I don’t have to do anything drastic,” Supt. Goodwin said.
“I’ll just be building on the good work done by previous commanders.
“I’m aware of issues surrounding last year’s Bathurst 1000 and I will be working to be a fair representative of the local community.”
Supt. Goodwin said he would be speaking to the community and had organised meetings with representatives from the liquor industry to address concerns raised from last year’s races.
He said he loved the diversity of his job.
“It’s an ever-changing environment with unique challenges at whatever level you may be in,” he said.
Supt. Goodwin yesterday conducted his first medals and awards ceremony for the Chifley local area command at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre.
