The Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum had its 75,000th visitor yesterday.
Koinonia Christian Academy had come to Bathurst for three days to learn about local history and when they filed into the museum they were told their school was the lucky number 75,000.
School principal Pat Amos said the prize was a bonus to a fantastic excursion.
“It was a total surprise, really lovely,” Ms Amos said.
The group of 13 students from Kindergarten to Year 11 are staying in Bathurst for three days to study the history of the area.
“We’d read about the museum in publications and thought it would be a fantastic place to take the kids.
“We go on a lot of excursions but nothing as local as Bathurst and we thought it would be good to get a bit of local history,” Ms Amos said.
She said everyone had a great time at the museum and other local attractions including the Bathurst Goldfields.
“Our time here has been fantastic, we all wish we could stay longer,” she said.
Councillor Bob Bourke presented school representative Kayla Amos with a gift basket full of souvenirs from the museum.
Kayla said she was looking forward to playing with the school’s new goodies.
On display in the museum are close to 2000 mineral and fossil specimens but the showstopper is the only complete tyrannosaurus rex skeleton in Australia.
