NETBALL

Netball coaches around Bathurst will be put through their paces when a coaching clinic is held here in November.
Representative coaches Lauren Mellenbergh, Michelle Regan and Candice Gregory will be joined by NSW Waratahs physio' Adam Antonoilli when they make their way here on November 2.
The clinic will give coaches from all levels an excellent chance to build upon their current skillset. Bathurst netball association coaching co-ordinator Jodie Ryan said coaches and trainers of all levels could take something away from the clinic.
"It's for any level whether they coach the netta girls right through to the A grade side, they will benefit."
The netball association currently offers coaching courses, but they are very basic with people often having to travel large distances to recieve the professional advice they seek.
"We very rarely get people involved with the state squads across the mountains ? people usually have to travel to them," Ryan said.
"This clinic will give coaches a great opportunity to get the advice and direction they need."
Ryan said it was important coaches understand the basics, especially technique.
"This is trying to coach coaches. We don't get enough follow through with coaches. We find that mums and dads are having to step up and coach teams and they don't know the basics."
Ryan said response to the clinic has been good with people from other sports enquiring too.
"Although it's specifically for netball, people from other sports are invited to have a look.
"We have Adam from the Waratahs coming down, so from a physio standpoint, they could apply the same principles to their atheletes."
Those planning to attend can expect a very full day, the clinic will cover everything from player conditioning, to specialist position coaching.
"There will be age appropriate drills from under 11s, under15s, footwork, ball technique, team drills and the day will culminate in putting it all into a court situation. We will also demonstrate correct massage and strapping as well as a nutrition talk."
The clinic is on November 2 at a cost of $30. This includes lunch and all equipment to be used. Those interested should contact Jodie Ryan on 0413 860 866.
