Can good home ground record remain intact?

ORANGE Tigers won the 2002 Central West AFL grand final last time Orange hosted a finals game and the club is hoping home ground advantage tomorrow will help them through to this year’s decider.

The Tigers host tomorrow’s final against Bathurst at Bloomfield with six years having past since Orange was last the scene for finals action.

Anzac Park was the venue for the 2002 grand final which helped the Tigers to their last CWAFL flag.

The Tigers moved to Bloomfield at the start of this season and they remain undefeated at their new home.

They have won nine straight games at their new ground and captain Nic Freedman would like to see that streak continue after the record helped them to second on the ladder following the regular season.

“At the moment it is hallowed turf for us. No one has cracked us there yet so hopefully that can continue,” Freedman said.

“You look at the two top teams this season, us and Cowra, and we’re both undefeated at home.”

But Bathurst is sitting on a streak of their own with the Bushrangers having made the last four grand finals since Bathurst Eagles and Charles Sturt University merged in 2004.

And while Freedman said it would be great for Orange to break the streak of their arch rivals, he acknowledged they will be wary of the visitors given Bathurst’s strike rate in finals matches.

The Tigers hold the advantage over the Bushrangers this year with Orange winning all three meetings this season.

However, Freedman has warned his side is now only concerned with tomorrow’s sudden death grand final qualifier.

“You just ignore the fact we have beaten Bathurst three times this year ... finals is what it comes down to,” Freedman said.

The full-forward has been in great form this season kicking 88 goals to lead the competition and he is determined to reach the coveted 100 mark.

Bushrangers’ captain-coach Steve Withers said it’s imperative his side shuts down the Tigers midfield to cut off the supply to the potential game-breaker.
