CARCOAR athlete Kurt Fearnley has taken out his second international event in three days winning the 2008 Cedar Town five kilometre event on Tuesday night in Georgia,USA.
Fearnley won in a sprint finish in a time of (9:45.1) edging out Marcel Hug from Switzerland (9:45.5) and Aaron Gordian from Mexico (9:46.9). Importantly ahead of Fearnley’s prime goal of Paralympic success in Beijing, he finished well clear of well-credentialled South African Ernst Van Dyke - expected to be a major stumbling block in China.
It followed his fourth win in five years at the Long Island 10km race on Sunday in which he blew away his rivals by 30 seconds.
The win in Cedar Town now has Fearnley seeking a hat-trick of wins within the week as he looks to the prestigious Peachtree 10km event being held on Friday. On a big day for Americans (July 4), Fearnley will be out to defend his title in Atlanta where he beat arch-rival Saul Mendoza in 2007.
