Thomas Geyer made a splash when he won three gold medals and set three records at the recent Central Tablelands Swimming Qualifying Meet at Katoomba.
The eight-year-old entered the 50 metre races for all four swimming strokes, won three of them and finished fourth in the butterfly.
Geyer’s first race was the boys eight years and under 50 metres backstroke and he set a new Central West record of 50.37 seconds on his way to victory.
In the 50 metres freestyle he won in 41.83 seconds while in the 50 metres backstroke his time of 54.74 seconds completed his hat-trick of wins and records.
Even in the 50 metres butterfly where he finished fourth, he swam faster than the previous record.
“Thomas is one of the up-and-coming stars of the club for sure. He broke four records even if he wasn’t the first home in one of them but it’s a great result,” Bathurst Swim Club’s Michael Stapley said.
“He has a gift but he has really started to come into his own since he came to the club about two months ago and he has grown into someone to watch in the future.”
Fifteen swimmers from the Bathurst Club made the trip and Geyer was one of five who was able to break records in the freezing conditions.
Fifteen-year-old Corry Ross was another standout at the meeting, winning three gold and two silver medals, his victories coming in the open age 50 metres freestyle and backstroke and in the 15 years and under 100 metres butterfly.
“Corry is one of the long-term swimmers with the club and he has been going from strength to strength. He has grown into a young man and as he has bulked up he has found it has helped his stroke,” Stapley said.
As well as Geyer, Joshua Stapley set a new record in the 11 years and under 200 metres butterfly while Daniel Kelly clocked a record in the 10 years and under 50 metres breaststroke.
Zach Telfser took away a gold medal and record in the 11 years and under 200 metre backstroke as well as three silver medals and a bronze while Nathan Luck set a record in the 50 metres butterfly for eight years and under.
