X-Box worked for Judd as he shines for Pat’s

ON a day when St Pat’s celebrated their holy grail and the life of one of their favourite sons, it was only fitting that a bustling prop would take out the award named in his honour.

Wade Judd was a nervous man as he walked up to accept the inaugural Dave Scott Medal for the best on ground in the Group 10 premier league decider – but not half as nervous as he was before the match.

“Ask the boys – I was nervous as all hell this morning and couldn’t even come to the ground and watch the first two games,” he said after the match.

“I stayed at home and played X-Box all morning.

“I just had to try and get two hit-ups in the first set of six.”

He did just that in the torrid opening exchanges, and followed it up with a whopping 24 more during the remainder of the game.

For good measure, he threw in three off-loads and threw a freak pass to Nathan Corliss for the custodian’s second try of the match.

He admitted that even at times during the match the jitters came back, but he had a pretty simple way of dealing with it.

“I just kept trying to take hit-ups because every time I was just standing around I’d find myself looking at the clock and just getting nervous again,” he said.

It completed a brilliant transition to St Pat’s after the experienced former Bathurst Panther had enjoyed a stint with Orange CYMS.

“I came across from CYMS and just really appreciate Kev [coach Kevin Grimshaw] for giving me the opportunity and after today I’ve come away alright.”

Liz Scott presented Judd the medal named in her late husband’s honour and couldn’t have been happier to pass it on to another battering ram in the number 10 jersey.
