One of them was walking wounded but Lyn Dillon and Dee McCarthy battled on to claim the Division One Lady Golfers Foursomes Championships at Bathurst Golf Club last Friday.

Dillon tore her hamstring in the lead-up to the event which made completing the round difficult but she was able to get around the course and she and McCarthy finished with a good 4 and 3 victory over Norma Johnston and Heather Moore.

"The weather was fantastic for playing golf and my partner played very well. I had a sports injury and didn't play that well but we got there," Dillon said.

"The other two ladies, Norma Johnston and Heather Moore both played beautiful golf but we were lucky enough to get up."

McCarthy and Dillon gained their advantage on the back nine after playing a very even first nine holes.

"It was pretty even all the way," McCarthy said.

"By the time we'd finished nine holes we were two up and then on the 10th we went back to one up," Dillon said. "We squared a few holes and got two up and one up and probably the 12th and 13th that we got a little bit ahead and at the finish we were 4 and 3."

The two women said consistency was the key to their victory in the championships.

"Normally we have a fairly similar game so there are no surprises. Today was different because of my injury. I tore a hamstring. It was a little bit difficult to play golf," Dillon said.

"There are no wayward shots. It's not often we are off the fairway, which can be difficult to come back from," McCarthy agreed.

Seven days earlier McCarthy and Dillon had an easy path through to the final when Chris Burke and Jenny Murray forfeited while Moore and Johnston had to step onto the course to defeat Marg Suttor and Janet Coles 4 and 3 in their semi-final.

In Division Two Val Stuart and Kathie Stait made their first tournament together a successful one when they disposed of Barbara Anderson and Marie Luck 8 and 7 in their final.

Meanwhile in Division Three Jan Roughley and Lyn Morgan were able to win by 10 and 9 over Margaret Woodward and Evelyn Turner.
