It was a successful round for the Western NSW Panthers FC when they took on Super Youth League rivals Schofields at Alec Lamberton Field on Saturday.
The home side was able to claim the outright victory after winning four out of five matches with only the under 16s failing to pick up points.
Last time the under 18s played Schofields they were under strength and beaten 3-0, but they got their redemption on Saturday when a second half goal to Alex Denmeade was enough to give them the three points.
The 1-0 win has the Panthers sitting sitting in third place, just one point behind the second-placed Northern Tigers.
The under 16s were unable to get any points from their match when they were beaten 2-0 by the Scorpions.
The team is still without a win but Western Football administrator and under 14s coach Andrew Fearnley said the team is trying every week.
“The effort is there but they just can’t get a result at the moment, their confidence is down at the moment,” Fearnley said.
The under 15s were able to get the three points after two late goals to Jacob Harris and Mitch Jacobs.
The match had been deadlocked for the the first 75 minutes until Panthers stepped it up and got the result.
A goal to Jayden Tumeth-McLeod in the 20th minute was enough to get the under 14s the points against the Scorpions.
Fearnley said his team had a tough match but their defence was able to stop Schofields from having any real scoring opportunities.
The under 13s continued a run of good form, winning their match 3-0.
Goals to Jack Madgwick, Andrew Christie and Jacob Humphris ensured that the team will remain in fourth with just three points separating them from league leaders Granville.
On Sunday the Panthers under 18s travelled to play PCYC Parramatta, but the combination of backing up from a match the day before and travelling proved too much for the side and they were beaten 2-0.
Panthers are sitting fourth on the club championship table, eight points behind their nearest rivals Northern Tigers and three points ahead of the Central Coast Lightning but the Lightning have games in hand.
“We have got points on the board and got those matches played whereas the teams who are yet to play have to play catch up to us, so I am happy with the position we are in,” Fearnley said.
