Bathurst’s junior players serve it up

ROUND 13 of the Medibank Junior Development Series attracted 90 players to Bathurst on Sunday as part of the largest tennis tournament for juniors in NSW.

Competitors came from all parts of the Central West, with both the Eglinton and Bathurst Tennis Clubs being well represented.

The day produced some outstanding results for local juniors with wins coming for Georgia Davis (12s), Lucy Bremner (16s) and Bethany Taylor (21s) in the girls divisor, as well as James Church (21s) in the boys division.

Impressive results also came in the 12 years and under girls division, with Caitlin Davis runner-up, as well as in both the 10 years and under girls and boys divisions with both Dominique Mitton and Jack Schumacher finishing second.

White Rock’s Luke Newman, pictured, was another who got amongst the action.

Tournament director, Andrew Mitton, said he believes the day was a huge success, with the results indicating just how strong the future of Bathurst tennis is.

With one round left in the 14 event competition, Bathurst juniors are out to secure as many points as they can to finish within in the top eight of their division.

If they manage this they will qualify for the Champion of Champions event to be held at Bathurst in August.

The competition also doubled as a Central West Fundraiser for scholarships, with $700 being raised over the course of the day to go towards providing funding for local juniors in the future.
